Escape to Paradise: Unforgettable Sheraton Qiandao Lake Getaway
Escape to Paradise: Sheraton Qiandao Lake - My (Almost) Perfect Getaway - Hold My Cocktail!
Okay, buckle up buttercups, because I just got back from, well, trying to escape to paradise at the Sheraton Qiandao Lake, and let me tell you, it was a journey. I'm talking a rollercoaster of "Ooh, ahh!" moments mixed with a few "Wait… what?" ones. So, grab your metaphorical cocktail (because, seriously, you’re gonna need it), and let’s dive in. This is gonna be long, and possibly rambling, but hey, that’s life, right?
First Impressions & Accessibility - Can a Wheelchair Get to Paradise? (Mostly, Yeah!)
The Sheraton sits right on the edge of Qiandao Lake, and, damn, the view from the lobby is breathtaking. Seriously, the lake just stretches out, blue and shimmering. Like, Instagram-worthy from the get-go. Now, for the accessibility stuff, because I know that’s important (and, let's be honest, should be for all hotels). The public areas are pretty good. Elevators are plentiful and easy to navigate, and the main walkways are wide enough for wheelchairs. However, I did notice a few minor bumps and dips here and there. Not deal-breakers, but something to be aware of. I'd give them a solid 4 out of 5 stars for accessibility. Though, I didn't check out the "Facilities for disabled guests" in detail, so perhaps there are some hidden gems.
Rooms: Finally, Some Peace (and Wi-Fi!)
Okay, the rooms. They’re luxurious, no doubt. Think plush robes, those crazy-comfortable Sheraton beds (seriously, I could have stayed there for a week!), and a killer view of the lake (if you're lucky with the room placement). Free Wi-Fi in all rooms!, praise the internet gods! This is HUGE, in my book. I actually need to be online, even on vacation (shame, I know). They also have Internet [LAN], Internet services, and Internet access – wireless – basically, you're covered. Plus, an alarm clock to get you out of bed to that amazing Wake-up service! The Air conditioning was a lifesaver. The blackout curtains were perfect for a good night's sleep. And the bathtub? Oh, the bathtub. More on that later…
The Imperfection: The Great Bathtub Debacle (And My Inner Drama Queen)
So, about that bathtub. This is a major moment in this review. It perfectly encapsulates the slightly messy, but ultimately charming experience that was the Sheraton. Picture this: I'd spent the day by the outdoor pool staring at Pool with view. I was dreaming of a long, hot bath.
The bathtub! It was massive, like a miniature swimming pool. I filled it with hot water, bubbles, the works. Perfect, right? Wrong. After about 10 minutes, the water started getting lukewarm. Lukewarm! Rage. This is where my internal drama queen emerged. "My vacation! Ruined! The Sheraton has betrayed me!" (Dramatic, I know.) The staff, bless them, were incredibly apologetic. They sent up a maintenance guy who fiddled with something, and the issue was fixed within an hour. But, that initial disappointment? It just kind of… stuck. It's a weird thing, isn’t it? The little imperfections stick out more than the perfection.
Relaxation Station: Spa, Sauna, and So Much More!
They've got it all! Body scrub, Body wrap, Foot bath, Massage, Sauna, Spa, Spa/sauna, Steamroom, Swimming pool, Swimming pool [outdoor]. Okay, I'm a sucker for a good spa day. I indulged in a Body scrub and a Massage. The masseuse was amazing. They clearly know their stuff! The pool, the view, and a bit of chill = pure bliss. The Gym/fitness, looked well-equipped, but I'm on vacation!
Dining, Drinking, and Snacking: A Culinary Adventure (With Some Hiccups)
Let's be honest, the Food delivery option is important in my book. I didn't utilize it once, but the thought is nice.
The restaurants are varied! Asian breakfast, Asian cuisine in restaurant, International cuisine in restaurant, Vegetarian restaurant, Western breakfast, Western cuisine in restaurant. They offer a lot. A lot. I had Breakfast [buffet] every day. It was your typical hotel buffet–lots of choices! The Coffee/tea in restaurant, Coffee shop, Desserts in restaurant, Happy hour, were all great. The Poolside bar, was, well, poolside.
The downside The quality was variable. Sometimes amazing, sometimes…okay. There were a few times I wished I had ordered Salad in restaurant. I wished for the Bottle of water because I can't live without it. And in the end, I just wanted a Snack bar.
Safety First: Cleanliness, Sanitization, and Feeling Secure
This is where the Sheraton really shines. With the current climate, they’ve gone above and beyond. Anti-viral cleaning products, Daily disinfection in common areas, Hand sanitizer, Hygiene certification, Individually-wrapped food options, Physical distancing of at least 1 meter, Professional-grade sanitizing services, Room sanitization opt-out available, Rooms sanitized between stays, Safe dining setup, Sanitized kitchen and tableware items, Staff trained in safety protocol, Sterilizing equipment… whew! They take it seriously. I felt incredibly safe and secure. Everything from the CCTV in common areas, CCTV outside property, Fire extinguisher, Front desk [24-hour], Safety/security feature, Security [24-hour], Smoke alarms, etc, shows that they are keeping their promises to clients.
Services and Conveniences: Making Life Easier (Mostly!)
The Concierge was incredibly helpful, The Currency exchange was also useful. The Doorman made entering and exiting the hotel easy. The Invoice provided. The Laundry service. The Luggage storage, and I felt comforted by the Safety deposit boxes, but what stood out to me was the Contactless check-in/out. Food delivery was available. I didn't utilize the Bicycle parking or the Car park [free of charge] because it was a vacation for me. This could have been better, though!
For the Kids: Fun for the Whole Family (Or Maybe…?)
I didn't see any children, but I couldn't care less to be honest. They do boast Babysitting service, Family/child friendly, Kids facilities, Kids meal, and I think that they have more fun than me.
Getting Around: Easy Peasy (If You Don't Mind a Bit More Spending)
They offer Airport transfer, Car park [on-site], Car power charging station, Taxi service, Valet parking, so there are a lot of options, which is helpful. The only caveat? These services aren't free, and can add up.
The Verdict: Paradise Found (With a Few Bumps Along the Way)
This Sheraton Qiandao Lake is a fantastic escape. It’s beautiful, luxurious, and the staff is super friendly and helpful. The food is mostly great, the spa is a dream, and they take safety seriously. Yes, there were a few little hiccups, like the bathtub incident (which, in retrospect, is kind of hilarious), but overall, it's a truly memorable experience.

Okay, buckle up buttercups, because we're diving headfirst into my chaotic, opinionated, and potentially disastrous jaunt to Four Points by Sheraton Qiandao Lake in China. I'm not promising perfection, just a whole lot of me, warts and all. Let's see if I survive this…
DAY 1: Arrival, Anxiety, and Questionable Noodles (and My Hotel Room)
9:00 AM (ish): Departure from, well, let's keep the departure location vague for privacy reasons. I'm already running late, which is par for the course for me. Airport security? A glorious, sweaty, stress-inducing ballet of shoving and sighing. My luggage, of course, is suspiciously close to the weight limit. I swear this happens EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. My blood pressure is probably already through the roof.
13:00 PM (ish): Landing at Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport (HGH). Okay, breathe. China! My first time, and I'm equal parts terrified and thrilled. The sheer SCALE of the airport is mind-boggling. Finding the pre-booked airport transfer? An adventure in itself. Turns out, my Mandarin is roughly equivalent to a goldfish's understanding of quantum physics. We eventually find the driver, who looks utterly unimpressed with my frantic gesturing. Noted: Learn some actual Mandarin before I go completely mad.
16:00 PM (ish): Arrival at the Four Points by Sheraton Qiandao Lake. Oh. My. God. The view. The lake! It's… breathtaking. Seriously, google "Qiandao Lake" - you'll get it. The hotel looks pretty swish too, lots of shiny surfaces, which immediately makes me suspect a potential slip-and-slide situation. I'm already mentally preparing for a spectacular fall. Check-in is smooth, thankfully. The staff are exceedingly polite - maybe TOO polite? Could be a prelude to something awful; I can be a real pain in the ass as I have been told on MANY occasions.
17:00 PM (ish): The room! Big, clean, and with that killer lake view. I immediately throw myself on the bed because I am a creature of habit. I then take a shower. I'm covered in airport germs, and I haven't slept in a while.
19:00 PM (ish): Dinner. The hotel restaurant. "Experience the local noodle dish," the menu proclaims. Famous last words. The noodles arrive. They are, um… interesting. The texture is… well, let's just say it's unlike anything I've encountered before. I bravely take a bite and immediately decide I need a large drink of something (anything!) to wash it down. The saving grace? The view. Even the questionable noodles can't spoil THAT. I make a mental note to find a western-style restaurant tomorrow. It may be cheating, but my tastebuds demand it.
21:00 PM (ish): Attempt a stroll around the hotel grounds. The lake at night, it seems, is incredibly dark. I get a bit lost. I trip over something (of course) and nearly faceplant. I swear I heard something snicker. Back to the safety of my room and immediately start watching a crappy movie on my phone.
Bedtime: I'm wrecked. Exhausted & anxious. I can't believe I did this. Will I regret it? Only time will tell. I fall asleep almost immediately, vowing to be less clumsy/more brave/less anxious, and more adventurous tomorrow.
DAY 2: Lake Adventures and a Dive Into… Deeply Questionable Tea
8:00 AM: Wake up, because my internal clock is apparently a sadist. The lake is gorgeous in the morning light. Breakfast is a surprisingly epic buffet, and I load up on about 100 types of pastries. I am going to regret this later.
9:30 AM: Lake excursion! I booked a boat trip. I'm also armed with a large bottle of water, sunscreen, and a healthy dose of optimism. The lake is enormous, dotted with islands. The captain of the ship points out various "floating islands" I can't see because I don't have perfect vision. It's beautiful, yes. A little… slow, perhaps? I try to focus on the scenery rather than when we will dock so that I can get back to more pastries.
12:30 PM: Lunch. I find a small restaurant on an island we stop at. I attempt ordering something, which leads to a hilarious, if slightly awkward, exchange involving hand gestures, pidgin Mandarin, and a lot of pointing at pictures. I end up with something I'm pretty sure is fried tofu. It's actually not terrible. This is a win.
14:00 PM (ish): Tea Ceremony! I've always wanted to try one. I find a small tea shop near the hotel. The tea is prepared with a ritual I definitely don't completely understand. It's fascinating. The tea itself? Well. Let's just say it's very… herbal. I drink it politely, fighting the urge to make a face. The shop owner, a sweet old woman, is clearly pleased with my efforts. I try to act like a proper tea connoisseur, and not a person who usually guzzles instant coffee. I'm pretty sure she sees through my charade. I secretly long for my pastry buffet.
16:00 PM (ish): Back at the hotel, I try to visit the swimming pool. It's too darn noisy and crowded. It is also covered. It is extremely hot. It is not relaxing. I decide to sit in my room to do nothing.
18:00 PM (ish): Dinner at a restaurant. I'm craving something familiar. I find a spot with some English menu translations. Ordered chicken. Got something that MAY have been chicken. Taste? A bit like rubber.
20:00 PM (ish): I give up on my attempt to integrate myself into Chinese culture and go back to my room, watch TV, and obsessively check the hotel reviews. I'm still questioning the noodles.
DAY 3: The Mountain, the Monastery, and the Quest for a Decent Coffee
8:00 AM: Okay, let's not be a total slob this morning. Breakfast again. I'm starting to recognize the staff at the buffet. They probably think I'm a monster.
9:00 AM: A trip to the nearby mountain! I hope it's not too tiring, I'm already suffering from several days of walking and eating.
10:00 AM: After a bit of effort I reach the top and the view is incredible. The scenery here is stunning. This is what I came here for.
12:00 PM: Lunch. Back to the city. I have a horrible thought of taking the bus. I will just pay the taxi.
14:00 PM: Monastery. I visit the Monastery. It is very impressive. I decide to take photos. The air smells of incense. It's peaceful. I'm surprisingly moved by it. I make a little donation, feeling slightly embarrassed but also strangely at peace.
16:00 PM: Coffee hunt. The hotel doesn't have a decent brew. I need caffeine, desperately. I set out on a mission to find coffee. It is a quest of epic proportions. After much wandering and questioning locals (with varying degrees of success), I finally find a little coffee shop. The coffee is surprisingly good. Blessedly, I can even understand some of the music. I’ve found my haven: Coffee, caffeine, and Western music.
18:00 PM: Dinner. One last attempt at the local food. I choose a safe option but still end up with something I can't define. I'm starting to think I have a food allergy I don't know about.
20:00 PM: Back in my room. Packing. Trying to mentally prepare myself for the airport. I'm feeling a strange mix of relief and regret. Relief that I'm going home. Regret that I didn't embrace the culture more. Maybe.
Bedtime: Exhausted, but strangely content. I survived. I ate some questionable food. I saw some amazing things. I had a mild existential crisis or two. All in all, a pretty good trip, I think.
DAY 4: Departure, Reflections, and the Promise to Return (Maybe)
8:00 AM: One last breakfast. This morning I'll stick to the pastries.
9:00 AM: I go to the hotel lobby. I get my bill. I'm actually quite impressed. This has been an inexpensive trip.
11:00 AM: Departure. The airport transfer. Traffic. Stress. But this time, I know what to expect. I'm a seasoned traveler now. (Okay

Is this Sheraton Qiandao Lake thing *really* 'Paradise'? Because, like, marketing, right?
What's the "Lake View" room *actually* like? Because sometimes "lake view" means "peephole that *might* see the lake."
What's the food situation? Buffet breakfasts? Are there decent restaurants? Because I need my food.
What about activities? Is it all just sitting around looking at the beautiful lake? (Which, honestly, sounds kinda appealing).
Okay, the "hiccup" you mentioned. What went wrong? Spill the tea!
Is it worth the trip? I need a serious escape, but I'm skeptical.
